Tottenham Hotspur Academy

Tottenham Hotspur FC runs a category 1 academy based in North London. They have an elite youth development program that nurtures young talent.

Tottenham Hotspur partnered with St John’s Senior School to support Academy players’ education, with selected Under-14, Under-15 and Under-16 players attending the school to enhance their academic progress and overall personal development.

Academy Competitions

Each season, the Academy competes across the standard slate of competitions for Category One clubs:

• U18 Premier League – split into North and South divisions; Tottenham’s Under-18s play in the South League.
• U17 & U18 Premier League Cup – introduced by the Premier League in 2017; seven group winners plus the best runner-up (by points, goal difference, then head-to-head) progress to the quarter-finals.
• U19 UEFA Youth League – the leading club competition for academy-age footballers worldwide, mirroring the format of the UEFA Champions League group stage. When eligible, Tottenham’s Under-19s compete in the tournament.
• Premier League 2 – since 2023, all Category One academies play in a single Swiss-style league (29 clubs in 2025/26), with entry and removal governed by Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) accreditation criteria, followed by a knockout play-off stage.
• National League Cup – a 32-team midweek competition comprising 16 Under-21 sides from Premier League 2 and 16 National League club first teams.
• Vertu Trophy – a midweek knockout competition for EFL League One and League Two clubs, plus 16 invited Premier League and Championship clubs with Category One academies, regionalised from the group stage through to the quarter-finals.
• FA Youth Cup – the traditional nationwide knockout competition open to academy sides across English football.

2025/26 Season

The Academy enters the 2025/26 season under Under-21 Lead Coach Wayne Burnett and Under-18 Lead Coach Jamie Carr.

Carr, 34, was appointed to the role in November 2025, joining Hotspur Way after seven years at Manchester City’s Academy, where he most recently coached the Under-16s and assisted with the Under-18s.

2025/26 Tournament Groupings

In the U17 Premier League Cup, Tottenham’s Under-17s were drawn in Group G against Under-17 sides from Ipswich Town, Norwich City and West Ham United.

For the U18 Premier League Cup, the Under-18s were drawn in Group H against Derby County, Reading and Burnley.

In the U19 UEFA Youth League, Tottenham’s Under-19s were grouped with Villarreal, Bodø/Glimt, AS Monaco, FC Copenhagen, Paris Saint-Germain and SK Slavia Prague.

Also in the Vertu Trophy, the Under-21s were drawn in Southern Group B against Bristol Rovers, Cheltenham Town and Plymouth Argyle.

June 2025

• 18-year-old centre-forward Ellis Lehane signed his first professional contract with Tottenham Hotspur.
• Jaden Williams joined Colchester United on a long-term deal after leaving Tottenham Hotspur.
• 19-year-old Oliver Irow signed a new contract with Tottenham Hotspur, keeping him at the club until 2028, having finished as the Under-21s’ top scorer for the 2024/25 season.

July 2025

• Highly rated goalkeeper Josh Keeley signed a permanent deal with Luton Town, following an impressive loan spell at Leyton Orient the previous season.
• George Abbott signed a new long-term contract with Tottenham Hotspur, extending his stay with the club.

August 2025

• Alfie Devine agreed a new deal with the club and spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Championship side Preston North End.

October 2025

• Alfie Dorrington was added to Aberdeen’s European squad for their UEFA Europa League qualifying and UEFA Conference League campaigns.
• Luca Williams-Barnett signed his first contract with Tottenham Hotspur.
• Highly rated 15-year-old Austen Ball joined Tottenham from Luton Town.
• 15-year-old Jacob Collins-Fay joined Spurs from Leyton Orient.
• Luca Williams-Barnett was named the Premier League 2 Player of the Month for September.
• Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall were named among Europe’s top young talents on the 2025 Golden Boy award shortlist.
• 17-year-old Blake Irow signed his first professional contract with Tottenham Hotspur, having progressed through the academy since joining as an Under-8.
• Defender Jun’ai Byfield was named in the England Under-17 squad for the 2025 World Cup in Qatar, joined by midfielder Luca Williams-Barnett and forward Tynan Thompson.
• Goalkeeper Mikel Jack earned a call-up to the England Under-16 squad for the Football Federations Cup in Antalya, Türkiye.
• Malachi Hardy and Elijah Upson were called up to the England Under-17 World Cup squad as replacements, while Tynan Thompson withdrew from the tournament.

November 2025

• Tottenham’s Under-19s suffered their first defeat of the UEFA Youth League campaign, against Copenhagen’s Under-19s at Hotspur Way.
• Goalkeeper Aaron Maguire was named in the Ireland Under-21 squad for their upcoming matches against England and Andorra.

December 2025

• Jun’ai Byfield signed his first professional contract with Tottenham.
• Tottenham’s Under-19s qualified for the knockout stages of the UEFA Youth League, and were drawn to face Real Betis Balompié away in the Round of 32.
• Tottenham Hotspur’s Under-18s’ FA Youth Cup journey came to an end in the third round, following their tie against Brighton.

January 2026

• Herbie James completed a permanent move to League One side Cardiff City, having joined Tottenham from Manchester City in 2023.
• Tottenham Hotspur added winger Joel Vidal-Philbert to the Academy ranks, arriving after three years with Chelsea.

February 2026

• Tottenham’s Under-21s were eliminated from the UEFA Youth League, following their Round of 32 tie against Real Betis.
• Roman Egan-Riley completed a permanent move to Premier League side Burnley, returning to the north west after two-and-a-half years at Tottenham Hotspur.
• Chelsea academy youngster George Jobling completed a move to Spurs after being released from the Blues’ Cobham academy.

March 2026

• Tottenham’s Under-16s progressed to the final of the Premier League Cup at that age group, following their semi-final tie against Chelsea.
• Conall Glancy signed his first professional contract with Tottenham Hotspur, having joined the academy from Celtic the previous summer.

April 2026

• James Rowswell signed a new contract with the club; the 19-year-old Academy graduate recently made his first-team debut, coming off the bench in a Premier League fixture against Liverpool.

2024/25 Season

Tottenham Hotspur’s Academy enjoyed another strong campaign in 2024/25, with the Under-17s winning the Premier League Cup and the Under-18s reaching the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup.

The club’s Under-21s had also been crowned Premier League 2 play-off champions the previous season (2023/24), beating Sunderland in the final.

In the National League Cup, the Under-21s were drawn in Group D against Braintree Town, Dagenham & Redbridge, Ebbsfleet United and Sutton United, with all fixtures played away from home.

December 2024

• The FA Youth Cup third-round match against Middlesbrough was confirmed for Sunday 8 December at Hotspur Way; Spurs have won the competition three times in their history, and the previous season Stuart Lewis’ side had reached the quarter-finals before being knocked out by eventual winners Manchester City at the Joie Stadium.
• Tottenham Hotspur secured a place in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup, following their tie against Middlesbrough.
• In the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup, Tottenham Hotspur were drawn away to Grimsby Town.

January 2025

• Tottenham’s Youth Cup match against Grimsby Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Blundell Park.
• Dane Scarlett was recalled from his loan spell at Oxford United.
• Tottenham Hotspur’s Under-18s advanced to the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup, following a dramatic extra-time tie away at Grimsby Town.
