U18 Premier League
The league divides teams into North and South groups for the U18s, calling it the U18 Premier League.

U17 and U18 Premier League Cup
In 2017, the Premier League introduced the U18 Premier League Cup and the U16 Premier League Cup, renaming the latter to the U17 Premier League Cup in 2020 for their respective age groups.
The seven group winners, along with the best runner-up determined by total points, goal difference, and then head-to-head record, will progress to the quarterfinals.

U19 UEFA Youth League
As the leading club competition for academy-age footballers worldwide, it serves as a prestigious and vital platform where players can build their reputations and rise to prominence.
When eligible, the Under-19s compete in the UEFA Youth League, which mirrors the UEFA Champions’ League group stage.
UEFA will be introducing a new format from the 2024-25 season.

Premier League 2
Starting from the 2023 season, all 26 Category 1 teams compete in a single league using the Swiss-style format.
Entry into or removal from this league depends on meeting the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) accreditation criteria.

Premier League International Cup
The participating teams are split into four groups of eight, each comprising four UK-based Under-21 teams and four invited overseas clubs represented by their development squads.
Each UK team will host all four overseas clubs in their group. The results will determine the standings in each group, with the top two teams advancing to the knockout stages.
U21 Premier League International Cup Group Stage
Newcastle will face PSG, Dinamo Zagreb, Benfica and Real Sociedad in Group C of the initial phase of the tournament.
Brighton, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest are the other UK-based teams in their group.

National League Cup
The National League Cup is a 32-team midweek competition, comprising of 16 Under-21s teams participating in Premier League 2 and 16 National League club first teams.

Newcastle United U21s have been placed in Group D in the 2nd edition of the National League Cup competition.
They will face Boston United, FC Halifax Town, Gateshead and Scunthorpe United, with all matches being played away from home.

Vertu Trophy (EFL Trophy)
The Vertu Trophy is a midweek knockout competition that includes clubs from EFL League One and League Two, along with 16 invited teams from Premier League and EFL Championship clubs that have Category One Academies.
The competition is regionalised from the opening stage through to the quarter-finals, featuring eight groups in the northern section and eight in the southern section.
Each group features one Under-21 Premier League side.
Vertu Trophy Group Stage
Newcastle United Under-21s have been drawn into Northern Group F, where they will face Harrogate Town, Huddersfield Town and Mansfield Town.

Newcastle United have confirmed that Academy trio Sean Neave, Leo Shahar, and Trevan Sanusi have signed new contracts with the club.
1st July 2025
Teenage trio Joe Brayson, Luke Craggs, and Logan Watts have each signed their first professional contracts with Newcastle United.
2nd August 2025
Matheos Ferreira has signed his first professional contract with Newcastle United, having joined the club’s Academy in 2020 from local side Berwick Juniors.
Ferreira is a versatile winger, who can operate on either flank, has developed steadily since his arrival.
Aaron Epia has signed his first professional contract with Newcastle United.
Epia is a ball-playing centre-back who joined the Magpies from Everton last summer and went on to make 14 league appearances for the Under-18s during the 2024/25 season.

Jay Turner-Cooke has completed a move to FC Halifax Town, joining the National League side after four and a half years at Newcastle United, where he arrived from Sunderland in January 2021.

Newcastle United Under-18s’ FA Youth Cup third-round fixture at home against Portsmouth will be held at Whitley Park on Tuesday, 16 December.
16th December 2025
Newcastle United U18s booked their place in the Fourth Round of the FA Youth Cup with a 5-2 win over Portsmouth U18. They will face Crystal Palace in the next round.

Newcastle United Reserve Team captain Cathal Heffernan has completed a permanent move to Harrogate Town.
The Republic of Ireland youth international joins the Sky Bet League Two side on an 18-month deal and will be available for their trip to Shrewsbury, subject to FA and EFL approval.

Newcastle U18s’ FA Youth Cup run came to an end in the fourth round after a 0-4 loss at home to Crystal Palace U18s.

Michael Mills, Oliver Goodbrand and Alfie Hutchison have all signed their first professional contracts with Newcastle United.
Mills, a winger who joined from Port Vale at 14, has already made his Under-21s debut, while former Rangers defender Goodbrand and Scotland U17 captain, and striker Hutchison have both featured at Under-21 level this season.
